Shore Service Dogs conducts educational seminars and demonstrations of Service Dog tasks for businesses, organizations, schools, churches, and other interested individuals. These seminars touch on many aspects of a Service Dog both in how they're trained and how they work once they've graduated to their partners.
We will introduce you to Major, our mentor/demo dog and will show you how you can help a Service Dog when they're out working in public. Interactive demonstrations will also be done to give a better understanding of how a Service Animal can assist a person to gain more independence and dignity in their lives. Shore Service Dogs performs seminars on how Service Dogs assist disabled individuals and what the responsibilities of the Service Dog team are as well as the responsibilities and ettiquette of the public and businesses that come in contact with them. Topics covered in the seminars will be:
- Demonstrations of tasks.
- How Service Dogs are trained.
- Where Shore Service Dogs' trainees come from.
Legal responsibilities of the Service Dog team.
- Legal responsibilities of the businesses.
Examples of when a Service Dog may be asked to leave the premises.
Examples of how to behave when around a Service Dog.
Dos & Don'ts you should know when interacting with a Service Dog.
Live interaction roleplaying with the Service Dog team.
- Q & A session.
- Doggie Da Vinci painting demonstrations available upon request
(painting demo generally requires approximately 1/2 hr to perform)
For businesses and non-charitable organizations there is a donation requirement of $60/hour. and any travel costs that might be involved. Seminars for charitable organizations and schools are available for a donation requirement of $25/hour plus travel costs incurred .
